Try Hard, Period.
In the business of recording, it’s rare when an act books out a major recording studio for more than one day. BUT… For The Band CAMINO’s new EP titled ‘tryhard’, 7 days in the Big Boy studio at Sound Kitchen Studios completely made sense. 7 days in the Big Boy room, not many acts get to brag about that, most acts would kill for one day in there.
Once tracking began, it became obvious what these boys were after. An album bigger than their selves. An album that is in “full send” mode. Take, after take, after take, they were almost endlessly building this awesome sounding record. Though the base of the songs were well rehearsed and pre-produced before the band came in, everything you hear came out organically: Spencer and Jeff’s stacked guitar parts and synth lines, Graham’s funky bass and synth bass slaps, and Garrison’s solid drum grooves.
With a band spending that many days in a studio you get to know them. They’re solid guys, class acts, and serious about their music. It was also a pleasure working with Jordan Schmidt (Producer), and Patrick Murphy, fellow engineer. As the days went on the setups changed and instruments and cables were strung all about the studio. As always, one of my main jobs was making sure things were always going to what they were supposed to go to… With all of this being said, give the EP a listen! Hope you love it, obviously a lot of hard work was put into it!
